A free tool for independent film sound. Everything stays on your machine.

Start with the picture. Drop the film in — it plays on your machine only, never uploaded — give it a name, and the runtime reads itself. Hit Return at anything that bothers you: the film pauses, that frame becomes a still, you type the note. Return finishes it, Space rolls on. Your day counts sit right under the picture, so when it tells you foley is 3 days, not 5, change it right there.

Then build the estimate. Step 2 starts with your rate card: everyone on the job at their own hourly or day rate, plus any rooms you book (mix stage, foley stage, ADR stage). On the worksheet, each department gets its time, who does it, and where. Rooms bill on top of the person in them, so a facility mix never distorts your crew numbers. The schedule runs each person's work in order and lets different people work side by side.

Save two documents as themed PDFs ready to email: the post sound estimate, with the days and hours behind every number and the schedule they build — and the spotting report, with stills and timecodes for the director. Your note locations also export as Pro Tools markers (.mid): import the file and every note lands as a Memory Location at its timecode.

Save writes everything, including stills, into one .ispot file. Blank worksheet lines stay out of the estimate, and the schedule builds from the same days you type, so your numbers and your dates can never disagree.

Union work has contracted rates. IndieSpot is for the independent world, where the number is yours.

Credits and terms

IndieSpot runs inside your browser. The only thing it ever sends is your email address, once, when you sign up for the newsletter. Your film, stills and notes never leave your machine.
